PAT...PRICES

Q: What equipment needs to be tested.
A: Anything that connects directly to mains power.
Please be aware that detachable power leads (IEC leads, or kettle leads) need to be tested IN ADDITION to the equipment they connect to. Equipment that is connected to the mains via a transformer only requires the trasformer to be tested NOT the low voltage equipment (eg your pedal board only needs the transformer testing not the pedal board).

PRICE IS BASED ON VOLUME, ACCESSIBILITY** and LOCATION but I have various schemes and ideas to keep costs down for low volume customers and customers outside my 50 mile radius. I.e you may be an individual musician with less than 5 items. See below main price list for our various schemes to help you.

I come to you on over 10 items (depending on location): see below price list for schemes for low volume and long distance customers. Extra charges may apply for locations 50 miles or more from Rochester, Kent, minor repairs,on-site problems (such as poor access to equipment) and small volumes.

Q: We're at the gig and the venue won't let us play, can you test here and now.
A: In theory YES, but I'm a working musician too, so if you leave it this late then chances are I'll be working and won't be able to help but give me a try, phone or text 07977 315438.
Price depends on location, no of items and on-site specifics.

**Q; What do you mean by ACCESSIBILITY?
**A: The price list below assumes all items are made accessible in a single location all ready to test. If I have to 'RETRIEVE AND REPLACE' your items from their normal in-situ position, this often involves climbing under desks and unravelling cables from behind filing cabinets etc and this takes considerably longer than when all items are ready and waiting. I add between £5 and £15 per hour on top of the item price for this service - usually it's about £10 per hour, so a typical 25 item 'retrieve and replace' job will cost £37.50 for the items and will probably take 2 hours, if there's a lot of leaping about to do, so expect about a £57.50 bill for this.

So, what do you do if you only have a few items?

Plan 1 - you can bring your gear to me, by appointment and the cost will be £2.50 per item for less than 5 items, £2.00 if more than 5 items.

Plan 2 - I'm using my well established contacts at the music shops to have specially arranged service times. You drop your gear off with them before the service time and pick it up after. You'll pay a maximum of £2.00 (even if you've only 1 item), obviously less if you've a lot of items. Check with your local store to see if they have an arrangement with me. If not let me know and I'll contact them to see if I can set up this scheme with them. Generally, this will be limited to Kent, London, Sussex and Essex.

Plan 3 - You'll have to organise this yourself. Get your whole band or even several bands to drop their gear off to a single premises - arrange a time for me to test and all of you benefit by getting the bulk discounts listed above. EACH INDIVIDUAL WILL GET THE CERTIFICATES IN THEIR OWN NAME so this is quite a good deal when you take that into account.

DISCLAIMER!
First my disclaimer...Advice given in this website is correct to the best of my knowledge and is my interpretation of a complex subject. You should seek professional legal advice if you need absolute clarification of the laws relating to health and safety.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
A PAT test in itself is not a legal requirement, however obeying the health & safety laws is. A PAT test will go a long way to satisfying your obligations in operating your business within the law. A PAT test is also often a condition of insurance for both you and the venue - this is arguably the biggest issue for venues and musicians and why venues will insist your gear is PAT tested.

PAT TEST - JUST THE START OF GOOD H&S
A PAT test, rather like an MOT on a car is only a safety test on the day of the test. Obviously, you can tread on a lead or drop an amp when you get to the gig and your equipment may no longer be safe. Good handling and safety monitoring is also necessary. We can advise you, at various levels, how best to keep safe and stay within the law.
