PAT...ABOUT ME

My name is Clive Gregory and I've been a professional bass player for a lot of years, and a sound engineer working both freelance and hiring out my PA rig.

I first encountered the dreaded PAT test about 3 years ago when clients, initially just major event organisers but more recently just regular venue managers, insisted that I got my gear PAT tested and show them the certificates.

It was difficult as a musician with a few items to find anywhere or anyone to do this and even more difficult to get honest advice and testing. As I did more and more shows it became more of a pain that the PAT testers couldn't give me PDFs of my certificates and I was getting a piece of paper for every single item of gear let alone find a PAT tester that would allow interested parties to verify with them that my PAT tests were genuine. This site goes a long way to satisfying both these points by hosting certificates on OUR site that allows your clients to view and verify your certificates.

Recently I decided that if you wanted a job done properly you've got to do it yourself, so I did the course, got the Certificate of Competence, bought the machine and here I am.

If you have any questions just email me and I'll try and give a quick answer.

DISCLAIMER!
First my disclaimer...Advice given in this website is correct to the best of my knowledge and is my interpretation of a complex subject. You should seek professional legal advice if you need absolute clarification of the laws relating to health and safety.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
A PAT test in itself is not a legal requirement, however obeying the health & safety laws is. A PAT test will go a long way to satisfying your obligations in operating your business within the law. A PAT test is also often a condition of insurance for both you and the venue - this is arguably the biggest issue for venues and musicians and why venues will insist your gear is PAT tested.

PAT TEST - JUST THE START OF GOOD H&S
A PAT test, rather like an MOT on a car is only a safety test on the day of the test. Obviously, you can tread on a lead or drop an amp when you get to the gig and your equipment may no longer be safe. Good handling and safety monitoring is also necessary. We can advise you, at various levels, how best to keep safe and stay within the law.
